What is this page about? The idea of paying people to have a homeless person either live with them or use their mailbox so they can get help from services like Centrelink. This could be a mutually beneficial situation, as once the homeless person is regularly receiving Centrelink payments they will be able to contribute towards rent and other living expenses. This system would need some thought since, by nature, the same vagrant can be hard to locate or contact. More to come later.

Vinnies Springvale: I currently regularly volunteer at this shop. It's a great way to make friends, get working experience and raise revenue for vulnerable people. This is Catholic based. They are currently looking for new people to join up, so please come alone with a few different forms of ID if you can.

This organization is Catholic based, but all are welcome.

Melbourne Evangelical Church: This is the Church I currently attend. It is a fledgling Church that emerged from the RMIT Christian Union and draws young Australian Students as a result.

They also have young professionals, kids and older professionals attending. They are Bible orientated and sincere in their willingness to be as honest about Jesus as is humanly possible.

They meet each Sunday at 5pm in Melbourne Multicultral Hub's Blue Room. They could use prayer and financial support, as well as new members. See their website HERE for more info.

Homeless bags: Occasionally I like to form bags of goods to give directly to homeless people around Melbourne CBD. It's a way of helping the needy without giving more money to drug abusers.

I try to select the content according to what I think they may need, but not normally get on the street. I prioritize hygiene since $2 spent on it usually saves $200 later in antibiotics and healthcare.

The bags typically contain:

  • Dental heath goods
  • Food or drink
  • Information about services for homeless people in Melbourne
  • A Bible or part of one
  • A flashlight
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Baby wipes
  • A comb or brush
  • A nail file or clipper

If you would like to help fund this please email shona.s.m.mccarthy@gmail.com with the amount you would like to donate. I'll send you an invoice via Paypal which you can pay at your leisure.

RMIT Christian Union: Are you concerned about the bias the Australian education system appears to have towards Atheism and would like to do something about this?

Through AFES, a University Missionary organization Christians are currently being given a voice in Australia's Universities. Tony Zhang, in particular, would like to be able to work full-time towards this objective.

I know him as a personal friend and find that he is sincere in his love for Jesus and his willingness to share Jesus's message to people who mightn't have heard it before.

If you would like to help him through prayer or financial support please see his page HERE.

You could also contact AFES for information on Bible Study Sessions in your local Universities.

End Human Trafficking: Many suggest that refusing to buy from local manufacturers will end modern slavery. But all this would do is take jobs away from people who really need them.

What needs to start is petitions to various government bodies so they can form trade agreements and laws that will weed out modern slavery at it's source. Join these Facebook groups to get involved:
